Farkle is a popular dice game, traditionally known as Farkel, Greed, Squelch, Darsh, Hot Dice and by many other names. Farkle Rules and regulations are given here to play it efficiently. Though its origin dates back to the 13th century, it is still a popular game among kids and adults. It is fun to play this game as it involves more strategy and a bit of chance. It is popular in social circles as more than two players can play it just with a few dice and score sheet. This game is an interesting one yet simple game and so kids would love to know Farkle rules to play it. 

How to Play Farkle

Before you start playing Farkle, note the requirements and Farkle rules of the game:

Equipment required to Play Farkle

  • 6 dice
  • A cup for throwing dices
  • A sheet to note scores
  • Pen or pencil
  • Plain surface

Players need to sit around a flat surface spacious enough to roll six dice and play in clockwise rotation.

PLAYING FARKLE

The game can be played by two and more than two players. Each player gets a turn in succession to throw the dice from the cup and play his move. Players can keep aside the high-scoring dice with them. At the end, the dice are given to the next player again in clockwise rotation. Once a player accumulates winning points, other players get last turn to outnumber his scores. Whoever has highest scores after this last turn, wins the game.

Rules of Farkle for Scoring

The points are calculated on the basis of results of dice throwing. If a player succeeds in scoring or keeping aside all the six dice, he has hot dice. Hot dice gives additional scores to the player. After hot dice the game continues with a new throw of all the dice. Some combinations of dice enable players to score bonus points. As Farkle Rules go, the one who scores 10,000 points remains unbeatable after the turn of others, wins the game.  If a player fails to throw winning singles or any winning combination, he gets ‘farkled’ i.e. out of the game with zero points. However, a player can avoid the risk of rolling a Farkle rules and pass his turn to the player at his left.

Strategy lies in deciding to keep the winning dice or combination of winning dice and moving ahead with the game. Players can keep the winning combination and/or winning singles. He can keep the highest winning dice and risk the low winning dice by not keeping them with him. He can try to play with them to score more. Or he can keep all winning singles and winning combinations and play further.Since this is a folk game, it is played in many different variations with varied Farkle Rules.
